Overview:

The Oral Health Educator will play a vital role in training Certified Nursing
Assistants (CNAs) within Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs) to understand the
importance of oral health in patient care. This position focuses on equipping
CNAs with the knowledge and skills to provide effective oral hygiene care,
identify oral health issues, and promote preventative practices, especially for
elderly and chronically ill patients.
Responsibilities:

– Training & Education: Deliver tailored workshops
and training sessions for CNAs to improve oral health care practices in
SNFs.

– Resource Development: Create and distribute
educational materials such as guides, checklists, and videos to support
oral health care routines.

– Collaboration: Work closely with SNF leadership and
healthcare teams to align oral health education with patient care
protocols.

– Oral Health Advocacy: Promote the importance of
oral health in overall patient care, particularly for elderly residents
with chronic conditions.

– Support & Guidance: Serve as a resource to
CNAs, providing ongoing support and troubleshooting solutions for oral
health challenges.

– Evaluation: Monitor the impact of educational programs
and suggest improvements to enhance care delivery.

Qualifications:

– Certification or degree in Dental Hygiene, Public Health, or a
related field.

– Experience working in healthcare settings, preferably with elderly
or chronically ill patients.

– Knowledge of oral hygiene practices, dental conditions, and
preventative care strategies.

– Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage with CNAs
and healthcare teams.

– Experience in training or educational program development.

Skills:

– Ability to present complex information in an accessible and engaging
manner.

– Empathy and understanding when addressing oral health challenges in
vulnerable populations.

– Organizational skills to manage multiple training sessions and
create effective resources.

– Familiarity with SNF workflows and CAN responsibilities.

– Proficiency in data management & analysis.

– Relevant background in public health.

– Prior experience with grant writing preferred.
