Job Description:
The State of Maine Department of Education is currently looking for a Business Analyst to help round out the team. The Business Analyst is responsible for the set of tasks and techniques used to work as a liaison among stakeholders in order to understand the structure, policies, and operations of an organization, and to recommend solutions that enable the organization to achieve its goals. This position will be expected to collaborate with business and technical team to anticipate and communicate product needs and requirements, specifically related to all assessment related data files, transfers, and sharing between the Maine DOE, SOM agencies, ME SAUs and subsequent vendors.
Opportunity to telework is optional. Must be able to attend in-person meetings in Augusta, Maine as and when required.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
• Collaborate with business and technical team to anticipate and communicate product needs and requirements, specifically related to all assessment related data files, transfers, and sharing between the Maine DOE, SOM agencies, ME SAUs and subsequent vendors.
• Write queries to extract data from SOM data systems in order to support Assessment team needs
• Maintain all assessment file metadata and specifications to ensure consistency and accuracy of files
• Perform analysis and documentation of business and system interactions.
• Perform business analyses of functional requirements to identify information, procedures, and decision flows.
• Evaluate existing procedures and methods, identify and document items such as database content, structure, application subsystems, and develop data dictionary.
• Define and document interfaces of manual to automated operations within application subsystems, to external systems, and between new and existing systems.
• Identify candidate business processes for re-design, prototype potential solutions, provide trade-off information and suggest a recommended course of action. Identify the modifications to the automated processes.
• Support and use the selected departmental methodologies.
YOUR EXPERIENCE SHOULD INCLUDE:
• 4+ years related industry experience.
• Preferred Education: 4 year college degree or equivalent working experience in business analytics/communications.
• Experience with formal requirements gathering methodologies.
• Experience with data validation, analysis and interpretation including the ability to identify key trends, gaps, etc. and provide solutions to address identified gaps and/or concerns.
• Experience in pulling data files to create customizable files with necessary information
• Understanding of educational related data elements, laws, regulations and FERPA
