Job Description

VDOT is seeking a highly-experienced Senior Azure Infrastructure Engineer to lead the implementation, configuration, governance, and ongoing management of our enterprise Azure environment. This role is ideal for someone passionate about building and maintaining secure, resilient, and scalable cloud platforms – and who is ready to set the standard for cloud excellence across the organization.

We are looking for a senior‑level engineer with deep expertise in Azure’s ecosystem, proven enterprise‑grade operational experience, and the ability to provide technical leadership across teams and to management.

What You’ll Bring:
– Extensive, hands‑on experience with Azure services, Terraform IaC, cloud infrastructure design, security best practices, governance, and operational management
– A strong sense of ownership – someone who embraces complex challenges and sees them through from design to delivery
– The ability to guide, mentor, and cross-train other engineers, fostering a strong engineering culture
– Confidence in communicating technical recommendations, risks, and strategies to management and executive leadership
Core Responsibilities & Required Experience:
– Provide expert guidance on the design, implementation, configuration, and governance of Azure resources, networking, and security policies
– Implement, maintain, and monitor mission‑critical cloud resources in a large enterprise environment
– Manage and optimize enterprise backup and disaster recovery operations, ensuring reliability and continuity
– Plan, lead, and execute cloud migration initiatives, including moving workloads from on‑premises to Azure
– In-depth experience working with other areas of IT such as architecture, security, development, and governance.
– Provide operational support and troubleshooting for production applications and infrastructure
– Utilize security tools such as Tenable to manage vulnerability remediation and improve security posture
– Build meaningful observability solutions using Azure Monitor, Workbooks, Alerts, and related tooling
– Develop and maintain robust disaster recovery (DR) strategies to minimize downtime and protect critical data
– Demonstrate strong networking knowledge, including OSI model concepts, core network protocols, and network‑level troubleshooting
Preferred Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves):
– Microsoft certifications such as Azure Administrator Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or similar
– Networking certifications such as Network+, CCNA, or equivalent

VDOT is seeking aVDOT is seeking a Senior Azure Infrastructure Engineer to implement, configure, manage, and provide guidance on cloud infrastructure in VDOT’s Azure environment. We are looking for someone who is truly passionate about implementing and maintaining a secure and stable Azure environment- someone who likes taking on challenges and seeing them through to the end, is comfortable working with/guiding others, and comfortable with providing guidance to management and upper leadership.

Requirements:
– Experience providing guidance on the implementation of resources, networking, and security policy in Azure, and experience implementing, maintaining, and monitoring those resources.
– Experience with working in mission-critical enterprise environments, including overseeing backup & disaster recovery operations
– Experience planning & executing cloud migrations, and moving workloads from on-premises to the cloud.
– Comfortable working in an environment that utilizes multiple frameworks/technologies, including .NET, Java, SQL, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, and more.
– Experience providing support and troubleshooting issues for production applications.
– Experience working with security tools such as Tenable to manage vulnerability remediation, etc.
– Experience with tools like Azure Monitor, Workbooks, and Alerts – to create meaningful monitoring dashboards & alerting for critical observability for the ops team
– Experience crafting disaster recovery (DR) plans to ensure minimal downtime and prevent data loss.
– Strong networking knowledge – including understanding OSI layer functionality and network protocols.

– Networking-focused certifications, such as: Network+, CCNA, etc.
